 Harnack fején találta a szöget amikor kissé ironikus éllel így összegezte a folyamatot: "a "πίστις " felülmúlta a "γνώσις "-t," ; ugyanis fordítva van; - aki tud annak felesleges hinnie.

Rudolf Ottonak van egy könyve A Szent címmel..., angolul sikerült megszereznem. Érzésem szerint, bár nagy híre van, az egész mű elhibázott koncepcióra alapul..., próbálja bebizonyítani, hogy az Istennel való találkozás "numinozus", azaz félelmetes és ijesztő.

Nem az.

Aranyszájú Szent Jánosról szóló részben olvashatók a következő sorok:

"But another, long before Chrysostom - the 'heretic Marcion - writing in a different situation, not within but on the fringe of the Church, had experienced the inconceivable aspect of the numinous and extolled it in words of an almost intoxicated fervour: 

 

"O it is a marvel beyond marvels, enravishment, power, and wonder, that one can say naught about the Gospel, and think naught about it and compare it to nothing."

It is remarkable to sec how the several moments of the numinous in experience are constantly compounded and blended afresh so as to produce quite special and peculiar types of religion. In Marcion the original moment tremendum is silenced before the consoling power of the Gospel, in fulfilment of the word "Perfect love casts out fear". 

 

But there remains strongly and profoundy felt the "wholly other", the ineffable and inconceivable, in his "strange God", and in the first words of his treatise, whose "violent
ferment" (in Harnack's phrase) reveals the clement of "fascintion". The sense of the "august" lives in the 'feeling of distance" in face of the "strange God", and in that, too, we detect a light thrill that is the awe of the tremendun reawakened and returning in a nobler form." ( Rudolf Otto, The Idea of Holy, Chrysostom on the inconceivabla in God, 186 ) 

 Maradjunk hát az angol változatnál..., a "szeretet kiűzi a félelmet". "A szeretetben nincs félelem."

 

 "There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love." ( 1John 4:18 )

"φόβος οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν τῇ ἀγάπῃ, ἀλλ’ ἡ τελεία ἀγάπη ἔξω βάλλει τὸν φόβον, ὅτι ὁ φόβος κόλασιν ἔχει, ὁ δὲ φοβούμενος οὐ τετελείωται ἐν τῇ ἀγάπῃ.( 1Jn 4,18 )

 

 A félelem rabjává tesz..., a fény, a szeretet viszont szabaddá.

 "De nékem éppen a napfény nem engedi meg a szolgaságot, (...), s szent sugárzása hazafelé vivő ösvényként vonz." ( Hölderlin, Hüperion, 213 )

Előbb azonban szenvednünk kell vele együtt, hogy vele együtt meg is dicsőüljünk." ( Róm 8,14-17  )

Ha tudom hogy szeretnek, az mindenkor több, mintha csak hiszem.
